Shilp Verma

Senior Researcher, Water-Energy-Food Policies, International Water Management Institute (IWMI)

Shilp has more than 20 years of experience in the water, energy, agriculture and rural livelihoods domain. He studied Economics at the University of Delhi and completed his masters in Rural Management from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA). Shilp has been associated with IWMI and the CGIAR in various capacities since 2001. In 2005, he was awarded an IWMI fellowship to study Water Resources Management at UNESCO-IHE, Delft. Between 2009 and 2019, Shilp worked as a Consulting Researcher with several prominent clients. In 2019, Shilp joined IWMI as an internationally recruited scientist based out of IWMI’s office in Anand, India. In his current role as ‘Senior Researcher, Water-Energy-Food Policies’ Shilp is the Country Lead for the global initiative, ‘National Policies and Strategies for Food, Land and Water Systems Transformation’ and leads several key IWMI initiatives including the ‘IWMI-Tata Water Policy Program’ and ‘Solar Energy for Rural Livelihoods’ (SE4RL). Shilp has been one of the pioneers of research on solar irrigation in the CGIAR and is widely acknowledged as a ‘thought leader’ in the water-energy-food domain
