Job Advert for Cold Room Manager/Operator

NEF is developing a solar agri-food processing hub in Sagbokoji Island, Lagos state to support preservation of sea food, increase food shelf life, reduce waste and enhance economic productivity and boost agri-business in coastal communities.

The Cold Room Operator will oversee the loading and off-loading of iced blocks; perishable foods stored in plastic crates and stacked in the cold room and/or freezers. He/She will also collect fees for the purchase of ice blocks and/or daily rental of crates. Generally, he/she will undertake tasks for the sound operation of the solar cold room. The ideal candidate will work with little supervision.
He/She will be self-motivated and trustworthy.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the full operation of the cold room.

Documentation of daily rentals/sales and attending to customers promptly.

Packing and arranging iced blocks in freezer and crates inside the cold room. 4.
Issuing receipt and receiving money from customers.

Paying in cash received to our bank agents. Tagging and maintaining tags on crates.

Perform scheduled daily cleaning, maintenance and sanitization of the cold room.

Report any necessary repair and maintenance of the cold room and its PowerBox.

Record keeping of all maintenance and repairs performed on the cold room and it’s PowerBox.

Reports daily activity to the Chief Operating Officer using official reporting
templates.

Opening/Closing of the cold room and freezers for daily operations.

Conducts daily/weekly customer satisfaction survey on customers.

Any other tasks that may be assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.

Delivery of products within the Island to remote locations using electric vehicles

Key Requirements

1-2 years practical working experience in cold room operations or similar industry.

Strong communication, multi-tasking, stakeholder engagement and customer service
skills.

Must be aged 25 years and above.

Must have at least a WAEC certificate or an Ordinary National Diploma or equivalent.

Ability to manage time and priorities effectively to meet deadlines.

Ability to work well within a team, including others within the company as well as our
contractors and suppliers.

Maintains a positive attitude.

Communicates and shares information in order to deliver results for the team.

Ability to make good decisions as it relates to the safe operation of the cold room and
other systems and escalates issues appropriately.

Experience in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Business Management will be
an added advantage.

Knowledge of refrigeration system, solar battery and inverter systems and its safety
management will be an added advantage

Experience of driving and operating a vehicle will be an advantage, including a
tricycle.
