2017 Africa Energy Ideas Competition Winners
The Africa Energy Ideas Competition is for early-stage business ideas. Across Africa, the key energy challenge is how to electrify millions of households, remote communities and small-scale entrepreneurs as quickly as possible.
The 2017 Africa Energy Ideas Competition attracted 174 entries from 14 countries in Africa. These entries were reviewed by an independent expert review panel and the top 15 entries proceeded to the final stage where they produced 2-minute videos pitching their energy ideas. The winners of the ideas competition were selected by 6 Judges who watched all received videos at the awards ceremony on the 4th July 2017, 13 out of 15 videos were received.
The top 3 positions are:
1st Position: The MeyanaWattsProTM- beyond electricity by Mer Gaya Best (Nigeria) winning a $500 prize.
2nd Position: Biomass and Agricultural Wastes Gasification Micro-grids for Off-grid Farming Communities in Ghana (EcoPower Project) by Prince Essel (Ghana) winning a $300 prize.
3rd Position: USINGINI hydropower mini project by Admore Chiumia and team (Malawi) winning a $200 prize.
